The following are some tips for our clients to prepare for the increase in website traffic during the holiday season.
1. Optimize your website
We are a huge proponent of efficiency and we will always recommend efficiency first and foremost whenever possible. This means we recommend that you optimize your website first instead of just upgrading and throwing more resources to it, which may result in unnecessary wastage.
If you have a Magento store, please make sure you go through our guide to optimize your Magento store. If you have any questions at all, let us know and we will be more than happy to assist and help clear your doubts.
2. Use our Content Delivery Network (CDN)
If your website target visitors from diverse locations around the world, we highly recommend that you implement our Content Delivery Network (CDN) which will help speed up your website with CDN Edge Servers that are spread throughout 50+ cities across six continents (that’s every continent except Antarctica)!
3. Add more Disk Space and Bandwidth
If you have a Web Hosting account, now is the time to login to your cPanel and check if you have enough Disk Space and Bandwidth. You should also look into the past bandwidth usages in your cPanel –> Bandwidth. If your Disk Space or Bandwidth usages are very near to your limit, you can add more Disk Space or Bandwidth at anytime.
If you have a Cloud Server, this should not be something that you will need to worry about so do move on to the next point.
4. Upgrade your Web Hosting or Cloud Server
Now is the time to decide if your current hosting service can cope with the increased traffic and whether you need to upgrade. Do you feel that your website is still sluggish even after optimizing and using our CDN? In that case you may need something with a higher capacity for the holiday season.
Take a look at your Resource Usage (especially CPU usage) to see your current usage and decide how much spike your Web Hosting account or Cloud Server can take.
- For Web Hosting clients, go to your cPanel –> Resource Usage –> View Details.
- For Cloud Server clients, go to our Client Area –> Services –> My Services –> View Details –> CPU Usage Graph.
If you are not sure on where to look or if you have any questions, open a support ticket with our Billing Department and we will be happy to go through this with you.
If you want to upgrade from your Web Hosting plan to a Cloud Server, open a support ticket with our Billing Department and we will guide you through the upgrade process.
